Caryn Mincherton, Occupational Therapist

A summary of Caryn's qualifications and experience:

 

Caryn completed her Bachelor of Science in Occupational Therapy in 1988 at Curtin University. She has many years of experience as an OT, with all but 1 year of that experience being in Paediatrics. Initially Caryn worked at Fremantle Hospital before commencing her career in paediatric Occupational Therapy at Princess Margaret Hospital. She worked in a range of caseloads including Burns and Plastic Surgery, Neurology, Oncology and Developmental Paediatrics. Following this, Caryn worked in community health prior to commencing private practice. In 1995, Caryn along with Penny Melsom, established Skillbuilders Therapy Services for Children in Leeming, WA. Skillbuilders was developed to provide a team based therapy service for children including Speech Therapy, Physiotherapy and Occupational Therapy. In 2001, Skillbuilders acquired ‘Hands On’ therapy products, to create a products and equipment side to their business. In 2012, a second clinic was established in Cockburn Central to enable Skillbuilders to provide services more comprehensively across the south metropolitan area. Caryn also completed a Post Grad Diploma in Business in 1996.

 

Caryn's special interests and passions:

 

Caryn volunteered to be on the Developmental Occupational Therapy Interest Group of Western Australia (DOT(WA) Inc.) DCD, Dyspraxia, Motor Dysgraphia Working Party established in June 2016. Caryn has a special interest in working with children and teenagers with motor difficulties. Caryn is regularly involved in consultation with the Curriculum Council of WA and provides many of the assessments for Year 11 and 12 students. 

 

 

 

 

Reason for loving what you do:  

 

When we asked Caryn the reason she loves her job she said, "
