Visual Perception Activities for Kids
Therapy and sensory toys, tools and aids for babies, kids, children and teens.
Visual perception is the brain's ability to process and make sense of what the eyes see. There are a number of different aspects to visual perception, including (and not limited to):
* Visual discrimination - recognising similarities and differences
* Visuo-spatial perception - eg recognising when things are facing the wrong way, putting letters correctly on dotted third lines, puzzle skills, and more
* Visual figure ground perception - being able to find things in a visual mess. Where's Wally activities are classic figure-ground activities.
* Visual closure - this is a trickier one - it's about being able to visualise what something will be when you're only shown a part of it, eg a picture, a word. An important skill for reading.
All of these processes are essential to learning. The activities below are selected as they help children to practice and refine these skills. We've put visual memory in a separate section so you might like to look there too.
