Children’s key word signing (KWS) flashcards are designed to introduce key word signing by providing the visual supports for the first signs that will be useful for allowing a child to convey their first wants and needs. We have either the symbol options or the 'Bear' option with a picture on one side and the sign picture with description on the other.

Both options are A6 size (7.4cm x 10.5cm) and come in a sturdy box.

These ‘Starter Signs’ packs contains signs that are useful in every day life to help get you started with your little ones signing adventure.

Signs include: Mum, Dad, Bath, Milk, Love, Bed, Please, Thank you, Nappy, Toilet, Sorry, Finished, Eat, Drink, Stop, Share, Book, Play, Home, More, Help, Friend, Brother & Sister.

These are children’s key word sign (KWS) flashcards. They are designed to be used to assist pre verbal, non verbal, non speaking children, those with unclear speech or other communication difficulties. The key word signs (KWS) are to be used alongside speech, gestures and expressions with key words being signed. Children’s key word signing is an unaided alternative and augmentative communication tool (AAC). Signing assists children to get their needs and wants met as well as to express their personality when they are unable to speak. 

Children’s key word signing is often used with autistic children, children with apraxia, dyspraxia, downs syndrome, neurotypical children with a speech delay, those with anxiety and ever babies that are pre-verbal (sometimes called baby sign). However it can be beneficial to all children especially those that are potential communication partners for children at their home, childcare centre, school or whether they may be.

Children’s key word sign uses signs alongside speech in simplified sentences to encourage communication through both sign and speech. Research has shown that CKWS encourages verbal speech while allowing the child an alternative method of communication.

Children’s key word sign uses signs borrowed from Auslan (Australian sign language) however it is not Auslan, Auslan has its own grammar, structure and Deaf Community associated with it.
